My Story in iGaming
From running a football tips Telegram channel in university to becoming one of Kenya’s most thorough betting platform reviewers.
2017 — The Beginning
Football Tips on Telegram
Started a Telegram channel during my third year at university in Nairobi sharing football betting tips — mainly KPL and EPL. The channel grew to over 2,000 subscribers organically. What started as a side project made me realise how little accurate information was available to Kenyan bettors about the platforms they were using — not just the odds, but the fees, withdrawal times, bonus traps and fine print.
2018–2019 — Going Deeper
First Platform Reviews & M-Pesa Research
Began reviewing betting platforms systematically — registering accounts, depositing and testing withdrawal speeds, tracking bonus wagering requirements. Wrote detailed breakdowns for SportPesa, Betway Kenya and Odibets. Developed a testing methodology that I still use today: deposit real money, bet normally, attempt a withdrawal, document every step.
2020 — Crash Games Arrive
First Kenyan Reviewer to Cover Aviator
When Aviator launched in Kenya in 2020, I was among the first reviewers in East Africa to publish a detailed breakdown — covering the Provably Fair SHA-512 mechanic, RTP 97%, Two Bets feature and Auto Cash-Out. The guide was widely shared and established my reputation for technical accuracy on crash games. JetX and Spaceman coverage followed as those games entered the Kenyan market.
2021–2023 — Regional Expansion
East Africa Coverage — Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda
Expanded coverage to Tanzania and Uganda iGaming markets. Researched regulatory frameworks across East Africa, covering the Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) in Kenya, and equivalent bodies in neighbouring countries. This regional perspective shapes how I evaluate platforms — a good bookmaker for Nairobi is not necessarily the right choice for Dar es Salaam.
2024–Present
Pin-Up Kenya — In-Depth Platform Review
Commissioned to produce the most comprehensive independent review of Pin-Up available in East Africa. Spent several weeks testing the platform across sports betting, casino, crash games, bonuses and withdrawals. Every guide, market breakdown and tip on this site reflects real testing — not content copied from the operator’s own materials.
“The Kenyan bettor deserves the same quality of independent analysis that UK or Australian bettors take for granted. That’s what I’m building — one platform at a time.”
— Kevin Ochieng
Areas of Expertise
Seven years of hands-on testing across every major iGaming product available to Kenyan players.
Sports Betting Markets
Deep knowledge of KPL, EPL, Champions League and African football markets. Evaluates odds quality, market depth, live betting interfaces and accumulator mechanics. Particular focus on value identification in under-traded markets like AFCON and CAF Champions League.
Crash Games & Aviator
One of the first Kenyan reviewers to cover Aviator in 2020. Understands SHA-512 Provably Fair mechanics, RTP variance, Two Bets strategy and Auto Cash-Out use cases. Has reviewed Aviator, JetX, Spaceman, Mines, Plinko and all major crash titles on the Kenyan market.
M-Pesa & Mobile Payments
Specialist knowledge of M-Pesa STK push integrations, Paybill vs Till number mechanics, withdrawal processing windows and KYC requirements specific to Kenya. Tests every platform’s deposit and withdrawal flow in real time before publishing findings.
Bonus Structure Analysis
Reads terms and conditions in full before evaluating any bonus. Calculates real wagering requirements, identifies cashout restrictions, time limits and game exclusions. Has saved Kenyan bettors from bonus traps that look attractive but are nearly impossible to clear.
Kenya Gambling Regulation
Tracks BCLB licensing, Kenya’s 20% Withholding Tax rules, the 7.5% excise duty on stakes and evolving regulatory changes. Understands the difference between BCLB-licensed operators and offshore platforms serving Kenyan players — and what that means for player protection.
Online Casino & Live Dealer
Reviews slot RTP, volatility and provider reputation. Evaluates live dealer studios for stream quality, bet limits and game variety. Tests casino bonus terms separately from sports bonus terms — they often differ significantly on the same platform.
How I Test Betting Platforms
Every review on this site follows the same 8-step real-money testing methodology. No exceptions.
Register a fresh account
New account with my real Kenyan phone number. I go through the full registration flow, note any friction, verify KYC requirements and document how long it takes to get a usable account.
Deposit real money via M-Pesa
Deposit using M-Pesa STK push. Record exact time from initiation to balance credit. Test minimum and standard deposit amounts. Note any fees or delays. No testing with demo money.
Claim and test bonuses
Read the full bonus T&Cs before claiming. Track wagering progress, note any market restrictions, document actual vs advertised wagering requirements. Check if bonus balance and real balance are clearly separated.
Bet on sports — multiple markets
Place bets across KPL, EPL and at least one international competition. Test 1X2, Over/Under, accumulator and live betting. Record odds accuracy, market availability and live betting interface performance on Safaricom 4G.
Play crash games with real stakes
Test games with real money. Verify Provably Fair mechanics, test Two Bets and Auto Cash-Out functions. Measure round frequency, check loading times on mobile data.
Test the mobile app thoroughly
Download app and test on a real Android device. Record app size, installation process, performance on 3G, navigation speed and whether live betting works without page refreshes.
Attempt a real withdrawal
Request a withdrawal to M-Pesa and record exact processing time from request to funds received. Note any KYC documents requested, minimum amounts, and whether the process matches what is advertised. This is the most important test.
Contact customer support
Test live chat response time with a genuine query. Evaluate whether the agent actually understands Kenyan payment issues or gives copy-paste responses. Check if Swahili support is available as advertised.
🚫 What You Will Never Find in My Reviews
Content copied from the operator’s own website
Bonus ratings without reading the full T&Cs
Withdrawal speed claims without actually testing
Undisclosed paid placements disguised as reviews
RTP claims taken from provider marketing materials
Recommending platforms I haven’t personally tested
